What We Believe
We believe in the one true church of Christ, established by Jesus Himself (Matthew 16:18). This church is not divided by denominational labels or human traditions but is united in faith, doctrine, and purpose under Christ’s headship (Ephesians 1:22–23).
All who obey the gospel are members of this one church, being added by the Lord (Acts 2:47; Galatians 3:26–29).
The church is the spiritual body of Christ, made for good works, working to glorify God, teach His Word, and make disciples of all nations (Ephesians 2:10; Acts 2:47; Matthew 28:19–20).
We strive to live in unity with all who are part of Christ’s body, upholding the truth of God’s Word and demonstrating His love in every aspect of life (1 Corinthians 1:10; Ephesians 4:1–6).
At the Ninth Street Church of Christ, we strive to worship God “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). Our worship is simple, sincere, and patterned after the New Testament examples of the early church.
We believe that God has revealed how He desires to be worshiped:
- Singing – We sing from the heart without instrumental accompaniment, teaching and encouraging one another through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16).
- Prayer – We lift our hearts and voices to God in prayer, expressing thanksgiving, praise, and petition (1 Timothy 2:8; 1 Corinthians 14:15).
- Preaching – The gospel of Christ is proclaimed as the power of God unto salvation (1 Corinthians 1:17–18).
- Communion – Each first day of the week, we remember the sacrifice of Jesus by partaking of the Lord’s Supper (Acts 20:7).
- Giving – As God has prospered us, we joyfully give on the first day of the week to support the work of the church (1 Corinthians 16:1–2).
We believe that God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:3–4). The Bible clearly teaches what one must do to be saved:
- Hear the Gospel – We must first hear and understand the good news of Jesus Christ (Acts 1:3; 1 Corinthians 1:17).
- Believe – We must believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9).
- Repent – We must turn away from sin and turn toward God (Acts 14:15; Acts 26:20).
- Confess – We must confess our faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 8:37; Romans 10:9).
- Be Baptized – We must be baptized for the remission of our sins, being united with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection (1 Peter 3:21).
- Live Faithfully – We must continue to live faithfully to Christ all our days (Revelation 2:10).
Through obedience to the gospel, we are added by the Lord to His church and begin a new life in Him (Galatians 3:26–29).
